Here, at Healthy Lifestyle Homestead we bring inspiration, insight and practical advice into your heart and home. While this site was begun in 2016 as a way of sharing and creating a community of like-minded people our knowledge and insight began years ago as a way of life we are ever so passionate about.
Our approach is an organic homegrown way of living that is tailored to our lifestyle. Our lives meander and evolve through our interests and passions in life. I taught myself how to make jam nearly 30 years ago while Tom was teaching himself chair making following ten years in a successful contracting business. With similar creative passions our paths and hearts crossed and we have been together ever since.
Today, we have a small orchard and large vegetable garden which we expand year by year. We prefer to take small steady steps testing the process, plants or products as our way of gaining ground. We also love foraging the wild black raspberries and blackberries that adorn the property as well as accepting the gracious gift of wild red raspberries from my son in-law. They are quickly frozen awaiting the juicing kettle when the kitchen has cooled from the heavily humid days. From there the majority of the juice is turned into very flavorful low sugar jelly while the rest is drunk. Imagine how tasty this can be in the middle of a long cold winter or a hot summer.
The nearly six acres that we maintain are mostly wooded but also contain a marshy area, pond, babbling stream, hills and more hills and a small portion of flat land with lots of sunshine. Along with this there are outbuildings including a tree house which has become a popular destination for many.
Our six chickens are the newest addition and they provide us with entertainment and such varied personalities. It forces us to take a break and just observe their antics and patterns. They accompany our two dogs; Marley a low key German Shepard mix and Daisy a challenging Border Collie mix.
Woven through all we do is the thread of simplicity to bring you interesting and pertinent content that you can enjoy, learn from and save time. Why reinvent the wheel, right?
