Are you looking for a healthier alternative to the Milk Bone biscuits for your canine companion? If so, I will share in this post, a recipe for homemade dog biscuits.
We all want our dogs to have a treat once in awhile and some myself included have always fed a Milk Bone dog biscuit as part of our morning ritual. That is until one day when I decided to take a minute and read the ingredient label. There was nothing good about them except perhaps the picture on the box.
If I want my dog to eat well, then I need to consider what the dog species needs in their diet. Dog’s are carnivores which means they need a mostly meat diet. The carbs in the form of limited veggies are added. Grains were only included in processed dog food and treats as a cheap additive so costs could be kept down. They were not incorporated for any nutritional benefit.
So how can you make a species appropriate dog cookie? If you have a food dehydrator you could thinly slice beef and dry it out. These make tasty one ingredient treats your dog will love.
For those like me who do not yet have a food dehydrator but would still like to feed a healthier dog cookie I have included a recipe below for homemade dog biscuits. These biscuits include healthy ingredients like sweet potato, flaxseed meal, oat bran flour, coconut flour and rice flour. They are fiber rich and also have vitamin A, B, C, E, K and choline which dogs require in their diets.
These are fun to make even with young children. The dough is soft and very pliable making it easy for small hands to work with.
